The Reefs Resort and Club, Bermuda
by: Gulshan Sippy

Perched high atop a cliffside, overlooking the Atlantic ocean, the Reefs Resort is located in the prettiest part of the island on the south side in Southampton Parish in Bermuda.

This is the place you go to for the moonlight, sunshine, the balmy ocean air – to chill, unwind, rejuvenate, or just to play golf.

This is the place you go to for romantic getaways, for honeymoons, weddings, anniversaries, or – for no reason at all!

We checked into a Cliffside room that had a cosy balcony revealing pink sands, turquoise waters and wispy white clouds that danced in the sky. It was an awesome view!

Breakfasts were served on the terrace at Ocean Echo. I quite enjoyed the classic Bermuda breakfast of potatoes, avocados, cod fish, and a boiled egg topped with a yummy Spanish sauce.

For dining, the two restaurants Coconuts and Ocean Echo offer a selection of gourmet delights. Or, if a romantic candlit dinner on the beach is more your fancy, the attentive staff will set this up for you.

Usually when I go to a beach resort, I almost always finish reading a book or two. But here, at The Reefs, my book remained unopened. All I wanted to do was laze, gaze, and listen to the mesmerizing sounds of the crashing waves hitting the rocks. I was blissfully content.

Taxis and mopeds are easily available, and the Bermuda Transit bus stops right in front of the main gate of the hotel. We hopped onto the bus for a day in Hamilton. We were pleasantly surprised when the bus passengers wished us good morning. This is true Bermudian hospitality. People make a place, and the people of Bermuda are gracious and beautiful.

Shopping was loads of fun. My friend bought some Davidoffs, and I was torn between getting the glitzy silver shoes, or the gold ones. I chose the silver. I should have bought both.

Lunch was at a local pub where we demolished the spicy Bermuda fish chowder. It was deliciously original, made with sherry peppers and Goslings black rum. You absolutely have to try this.

Every night we took a soak in the hot tub on the terrace and were wowed by the wondrous view in front of us. Shades of blues sparkled in the soft night lights, the infinity pool seemingly suspended between the sky and the sea. It was ethereal.

If you like to snorkel, kayak, rejuvenate in the spa, enjoy a wine tasting, play tennis, hit the links, or simply tie the knot, you will find it all here at The Reefs.

This is a place you want to go back to again and again. I know I will. After all, Bermuda is only a heartbeat away from Toronto and I still have lots to explore there. Plus, I must go back to get my gold shoes!
