Victoria\'s Secret Fashion Shows
by: Gulshan Sippy

Oh, how times have changed! Victoria’s Secret has a way of making lingerie playful and sexy that doesn’t limit it to your big wedding day and night. In honour of this year’s Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, we take a look at the Show’s past decade and then some to highlight our favourite moments.

A modest start for what would become one of the most anticipated annual Fashion Shows. The first Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show wasn’t even broadcast on national television (this changed in 1999) and the wings had yet to be introduced. Here’s a quick glimpse of a video we found from the 1995 show:

This year, the supermodel veterans that we’re so familiar with now walked the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show for the first time. Do the names Tyra Banks and Naomi Campbell ring a bell for anyone?

This year, we say “Willkommen!” to German beauties Claudia Schiffer and Heidi Klum who joined the Show.

Angels wings make their first appearance and would soon become a trademark of the show. These first wings were attached to gloves that the models had to flap.

At last! The public is finally able to catch a glimpse of the Show…but only through an online stream. The theatrics and costumes that we know and love about the show today were slowly added in.

With a price tag of $15 million, the Red Hot Fantasy Bra and Panties worn by Gisele Bunchen had us seeing green. These were the most expensive pieces of lingerie, but it never made it to the Show.

It took six years, but the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show was finally shown on network TV and drew in 12.4 million viewers.

Elaborate wings? More outrageous outfits? Yes, please! What kind of Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show would it be without these?

Here’s one cabaret show we didn’t have to drag our guys to watch. There’s something very Vegas-y about this set-up that we love!

No angels walked the runway this year; instead, they were busy with their Angels Across America Tour.

The Show’s ten year anniversary and an angel takes flight. This was the last year Tyra Banks walked the Victoria Secret Fashion Show and her send off couldn’t be bigger. We love her outfit: a glamorous black corset and feathery wings to match.

Victoria’s Secret took sexy to a whole new level with Justin Timberlake, who opened the Show with his song, “Sexy Back”.

Talk about “Girl Power!” – the Spice Girls performed at this year’s fashion show and had us singing along as if it were the late 1990s.

How’s this for a parting gift for devoted Show fans: after thirteen years as “head angel”, Heidi Klum hangs up her wings, but not before gift-wrapping herself for her final walk.

Victoria’s Secret describes this year’s show as “a fantasy and celebration of the different types of women”. Themes this year were varied between Star Trooper, Pink Planet, Enchanted Forest and Romantic Journey.  Our favourite look from this Show? Star Trooper, because of the Blade Runner vibe it gives.

The 2010 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show proved that lingerie can also be sporty. Here’s one for boxing fans:

This year, the Show was nothing short of spectacular. From the pop-culture inspired outfits (Swan Lake and superheroes) to musical acts from today’s pop royalty (Kanye, Jay-Z, Nicki Minaj and Maroon 5), what more could we ask for? Alas, we’re already counting down the days for next year’s big production.
